If you own a restaurant, it’s really important to make sure that it appeals to customers and potential customers. If your premises looks dirty and unkempt, how many new customers are going to walk through your door?

One of the challenges that many restaurant owners face is the mold and mildew that tends to grow around outdoor areas. With the right conditions, concrete and other hard areas can become unsightly because they get covered in black mold and mildew. This not only looks bad, but it can also be a slipping hazard in wet weather. These areas can also become muddy during winter time, especially if there is snow around and lots of rain.

The good news is that pressure washing these areas will eliminate a lot of the mold and mildew, but when is the best time to do it?

The Climate Matters

Mold and mildew grows under more favorable environmental conditions, so how often you pressure wash your restaurant is going to depend on these factors for the most part. If your restaurant is in the northern part of the country where the winters can get pretty cold, wooden decking and concrete can become infested with mold and mildew. It may also become very dirty due to mud.

In warmer climates, such as California, the winters will be milder and mud won’t be so much of an issue. You may find in these cases that pressure cleaning is not quite as urgent.

How Often Should You Pressure Wash?

If your restaurant is in a location where the winters can be harsh, it’s advisable to wait until the fall or warmer weather hits before pressure cleaning. That being said, some people do prefer cleaning wooden decks and other outdoors areas during the cold weather when the mildew is most active. Pressure cleaning in this environment will also need to be done much more often each year.

In warmer climates where the winters are not as severe, cleaning may only need to be done a few times a year. This largely depends on the state of the outdoor areas. In this sense, what should really drive pressure cleaning regularity is how clean the exterior areas are.

Why Is Pressure Washing Effective?

Your restaurant’s exterior is subject to weather conditions throughout the year and it’s important to keep an eye on these outdoor areas to ensure that they are looking clean. If too much mud, mildew, dirt, and mold starts to build up, you may want to think about getting the pressure washer out.

One of the biggest advantage of using a pressure washer is that it uses a stream of high powered water to lift off and eliminate all of the dirt and grime. This is far safer than using chemical products and it also means that it’s not necessary to use a ladder or scaffold to get to upper areas.

If you run a restaurant, you can’t afford for customers not to come through the door. Your business partly depends on how clean your restaurant is and all of the exterior areas. In this context, pressure cleaning is essential.
